Let's try the 'ol cut the glass bottle with string!

Ok, so if you have ever visited the web site www.pinterest.com you have seen the instructions to cut a glass bottle with just a few household items. Pinterest is a site where peeps can view and share numerous ideas. I love it and like to try what I find on the site and see if it really does work.

For this glass cutting experiment it is stated that you only need the following items.....Glass to cut, nail polish remover, string and flamage.

Now it is described to first soak your string in nail polish remover. Different links state different types of string are possible to use. Some examples you can use are yarn, twine, or butcher string. That's just some of the few I read about. I personally used a type of twine you make beaded bracelets with.

I soaked the twine and tied it around the bottle once and then tried to light the twine with a match. That failed. So then I used one of those long clicker fire starters. It lit the twine then went out. I emerged the bottle in cold water with the slight hope that it will have cut. Nope. Sooooo, I then soaked the twine, wrapped it around the bottle about 10 times and lit a candle. I proceeded to hold the bottle sideways and continued to turn the bottle over the twine with the flame. I did this for about 5 minutes. Afterwards I emerged the bottle (where the twine was) in ice cold water. I heard a pop. When I pulled it out this is what I had........

Ya, not so much. This was a fail for me. There are numerous possibilities as to why this did not work. If you have any hints or ideas that may work to get a smooth, clean look I would love to hear them. As for now I will put my glass cutting abilities on hold until I find a better process which I will be sure to share. Peace!
